1 -summon o summons?-
Nota d'usoTo summon significa genericamente “convocare”: to be summoned to the manager's office, essere convocato nell'ufficio del direttore; I eventually summoned up the courage to ask her to marry me, alla fine feci appello al mio coraggio per chiederle di sposarmi. Ha anche un'accezione di ambito legale, col significato di “citare in giudizio”: I was summoned to appear in court, fui citata in giudizio. Il verbo to summons, invece, ha esclulsivamente questo significato legale, quindi summonsed vuol dire “citato in giudizio”: I was summonsed to appear before the magistrates' court, fui citato in giudizio davanti alla corte dei magistrati. Il sostantivo summons significa “mandato di comparizione, citazione in tribunale”: He had been served with a summons to appear in the High Court, gli fu ingiunto un mandato di comparizione davanti all'Alta Corte di giustizia. -
